Wassail is a time-honoured tradition in the County where we raise a cup to the vines in recognition of the year’s harvest. With the vines now buried in preparation for the winter season, it is time to come together for drinks and merriment. There are two ways to experience Wassail in the County - either through a self-guided tour or on a bus tour. Come celebrate Wassail at The June the last three weekends of November.
CHECK-IN TO YOUR STUDIO ROOM
Pre-order a bottle of wine and cheese & charcuterie board to be waiting in your room upon arrival. Enjoy a drink and light snack before heading back out for the remainder of the evening.
FIRE & WINE
Stay warm on those cold winter nights by heading over to Bloomfield to dine at Flame & Smith, a restaurant that embraces the art of woodfire cooking. Opt for the $65 family style feast, and let them craft you up a perfect dining experience.
BUT FIRST, COFFEE
Head to Miss Lily’s Cafe on Picton Main Street to pick up a Pilot coffee and a Montreal bagel before heading out to tour the County. Be sure to fuel up as you have a full day of wine-tasting ahead of you!
Option 1: Wassail on your Own
WASSAIL - DAY 1
1st stop: Keint-He Winery & Vineyard
Kick off your Wassail adventure with some shortbread and a glass of one of our go-to Chardonnay's while taking in the sights of Lake Ontario from the tasting room.
2nd stop: By Chadsey’s Cairns Winery
Head next door to By Chadsey’s Cairns Winery for mini beef wellingtons, mulled wine and all the cozy Wassail vibes.
3rd stop: Traynor Family Vineyard
If you need a break from wine, this is the perfect stop to add into your itinerary. Enjoy a cocktail from pop-up Old Salt Cocktail Company in a retro trailer, then snap a pic with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
4th stop: The Grange of Prince Edward County
Finish off Day 1 of your Wassail tour by the fire at the Grange Winery. Sip a glass of their Spiced White Wine while reflecting on your favourite Wassail moments of the day.
Option 2: Wassail via Bus Tour
For only $40, you can board the Wassail Wine Tour Bus from Downtown Picton. Join other revelers as you visit four wineries and sing carols to earn your tastings and treats. For more information and to purchase tickets visit the Wassail website (tickets sell out quickly!)
RELAX & UNWIND
After touring around wine country for the day, enjoy a delicious meal and a glass of your favourite County wine at Hartley’s Tavern in Picton. If you’re still looking to take part in some merriment after dinner, enjoy live music at The County Canteen before heading back to The June for the evening.
Head to the Lobby Bar for a cocoa chia pudding bowl and fresh-pressed juice while you browse the gift shop for perfect stocking stuffers or Secret Santa gifts.
WASSAIL - DAY 2
1st stop: Sandbanks Winery
Head upstairs at Sandbanks to get crafty and make a wreath using grapevines from the vineyard (click here to purchase tickets - and support the local foodbank) while you sip mulled wine and eat Wassail snacks. When finished head downstairs to grab a bottle of Riesling and the recipe for the mulled wine you've been sipping.
2nd stop: Hillier Creek Winery
This is the perfect place to stock up on some Christmas gifts. Grab a glass of mulled wine while you look at items for purchase, including freshly baked goods, ornaments and stocking stuffers.
3rd stop: Trail Estates Winery
Before hitting the road home, fuel up with a stop at Trail Estates. Taste their beef stew braised using their own Baco wine.
